Boards, committees and councils

The University has a number of advisory and decision-making bodies. Highest up in the organizational hierarchy is the University Board. The Chairman and seven regular board members are appointed by the Government. The teaching faculty appoints three representatives, the employees' trade unions two representatives and the student union appoints three representatives. The Vice-Chancellor is also a member of the board.

Collegial election is the accepted practice in the University's committees and boards. The Chairman and often the vice-chairman are appointed by the Vice-Chancellor upon recommendation. The boards of the University's five schools are appointed by election within their respective staff groups. Following a recommendation, the Vice-Chancellor appoints the chairman and vice-chairman.
