Research
Dr. Stambulova professional experiences in sport psychology refer to her work for about three decades as a teacher, researcher, and practitioner in the USSR/Russia and since 2001 in Sweden. She received her first PhD (1978) in developmental psychology at the Leningrad State University and the second one (1999) in sport psychology at the P. F. Lesgaft State University of Physical Culture. Her research and more than one hundred publications relate mainly to the athletic career topic with an emphasis on athletes’ career transitions and crises. In 2011 she was invited to be a member of the EU Ad-hoc Group of Experts on Athletes’ Dual Careers. Dr. Stambulova is member of the Editorial Boards of two major international sport psychology journals, such as Psychology of Sport and Exercise, and Sport Psychology in Action. She has been serving as a member of Managing Council of the International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP) since 2001, and in 2009 she was elected as the ISSP vice-president.
