The academic year
The academic year is divided into two terms or semesters: the autumn term/semester and the spring term/semester. The autumn term begins at the end of August and lasts until mid-January. The spring term begins in mid-January and lasts until the beginning of June. Both terms lasts for approximately 20 weeks.
One academic year of full-time studies equals 60 credits, and one term of full time studies equals 30 credits. It is possible to be admitted for maximum 45 credits per term. Please note that to be granted a VISA/resident permit you must be admitted to 30 credits i.e. full time studies!Courses are held during the summer too, but they are usually not quite as substantial as the spring/autumn courses. In December during Christmas, there is usually a short break.
Should your studies in Halmstad begin or be held during the autumn there is also the Fresher's week, Nollningen, that one should not miss out on. It is an introductory period of fun and play and making new friends. Contact the Student Union
for more information.
