Residence permit in Sweden

All students from non-EU/EEA countries have to apply for a residence permit/VISA. You should start the application process as soon as you have been granted admission to the university.

Requirements to be granted a residence permit


To be granted a residence permit you must intend to study and:
  • be admitted to full-time studies
  • have comprehensive health insurance that covers the whole period you are in Sweden if you plan to study for less than one year
  • be able to support yourself for the planned study period
  • have a valid passport.

The Swedish Board of Migration decides whether student visas are granted or denied, Halmstad University can not assist you with any questions regarding the residence permit.

You will not receive any other admission letter from Halmstad University, printing it from University Admissions is your only option.
