Computer usage regulations

  • Computer accounts are personal. The account owner is responsible for how the account is used.
  • Every IT user is responsible for his/her IT security in accordance with what is stated in the regulations.
  • All users should regularly check their allotted email box and read relevant messages contained therein.

Use of computer- and network resources

  • Copyright should be observed at all times. It is not permitted to unlawfully download / distribute protected materials such as software, films, music or other items which are protected by copyright.
  • The user of the computer account should not indulge in any disruptive activity. Disruptive activity includes any activity which affects the functionality or security of the University's or other organization's computer resources.
  • All software should be installed by the IT Department or with the approval of the IT Department.
  • It is not permitted to connect private computers or other equipment other than to the network specifically provided for the task.
  • It is permitted to a limited extent to use the University´s resources for private matters such as  email, surfing and similar. Teaching and studies should be prioritised in computer and project rooms.
  • IT services with the University's local network should only use hh.se as the domain name.

Ethics


Surfing to websites with unlawful, unethical or unsuitable contents is not permitted unless work tasks, research or other studies specifically require visits to such web pages.

So-called on-line gambling (eg net poker or similar games involving money) is not permitted from within the University's network.

Measures and surveillance

  • The IT Department has the right, without giving advance notice and for the purpose of continuous maintenance management, to intercept net traffic through technical measures in the network and system. In cases where a user is suspected of some unlawful infringement of the regulations, the above rights can be extended to include the user's data.
  • The IT Department has the right in cases of disruption to net operations, security risks or other suspected infringements or improprieties to temporarily suspend access to individual or collective IT resources.
  • Repeated or serious breaches of these regulations can lead to suspension from the use of computer resources and / or being reported to the student  / staff disciplinary committee.Suspected legal infringements can be reported to the police.

Changes in circumstances relating to work tasks or studies can lead to changes in access privilege levels in IT systems.

Wireless internet and encryption


The University has installed a wireless network where you can securely connect your laptop computer with the internet. The new wireless network eduroam is an encrypted network which extends over most of the university campus area.  The net logon is still in operation but it is a network in which the traffic is completely open. No registration is needed in order to be able to use eduroam; instead the only requirement which is needed is the set up on the computer. This set-up only needs to be done once. eduroam also enables you to to connect to the internet at other universities that has joined eduroam. More information about wireless internet.
