All students coming to Sweden must have a valid medical insurance. Please make sure you verify your insurance coverage, since you are responsible for having sufficient insurance yourself.Insured on campus
Only the exchange students but not the other international students are covered by an insurance taken out by Halmstad University at the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency, Kammarkollegiet.
The insurance covers medical treatment, accidental injury and assault, disability and death, liability and legal expenses at a level comparable to normal high Swedish standards. You are only covered by the insurance while on campus. A copy of the Kammarkollegiet conditions should be available at your home University. Travel insurance
It should be noted that travels to and from Sweden in connection with your study period is not covered, nor are trips outside Sweden during the study period. Coverage for such travel must be bought by the students themselves. Students should consult Kammarkollegiet for insurance coverage details. Halmstad University cannot answer questions related to the details of the insurance other than the information sent to admitted exchange students together with their admission letter. Property/theft insurance
Property/theft insurance while in Sweden is not included in the University insurance. This is, however, included with a range of other benefits in the Student Union insurance policy, which you can buy at a reasonable cost when you pay your Student Union fee, unless you have acquired such coverage before coming to Sweden. The Student Union insurance policy does not, however, cover non-Nordic citizens for travels outside the Nordic countries. Even if you live in a student room, it is advisable to take out a householders' comprehensive insurance. The landlord will not cover theft of or damage to your personal belongings. In addition, students requiring a more comprehensive coverage are free to buy additional insurance policies themselves in their home country.
