(Svenska kyrkan),
very early became a part of the central administration. Gradually, however, the church has been separated from the state and in 1999 it gained its full independence. The religious life of Sweden is changing rapidly as the society becomes increasingly pluralistic. Most people belong to the Lutheran church although few Swedes visit church regularly. Apart from Lutheran Christianity, numerous churches and sects are found in Sweden, most of them are fairly small. A large number of immigrants are either Catholics or Muslims. In recent years, there are also a large part of Hindus and Buddhists among the immigrants. As to more recently founded religious communities there are Mormons, Pentecostalists, and Jehovah's Witnesses.
Please ask the student priest at the student's health and welfare centre if you want to make contact with a certain church representative.
