e Swedish Alcohol Retail Monopoly

In Sweden, alcohol is sold only in special shops called Systembolaget.

The age limit for buying alcohol at Systembolaget is 20 years, but for drinking in restaurants and bars the age limit is 18 years.

Bring you passport! It is important that you bring a valid ID card when buying alcohol at Systembolaget, and since Systembolaget do not accept foreign driver's licenses or other foreign ID cards, you need to bring your passport.

In Halmstad you can find Systembolaget on Stora Torg in Halmstad city and at Eurostop.

Systembolaget has limited opening hours and is always closed on Sundays.

The most important responsibility of our mandate is not what we do, but what we do not do.
Our retail rules involves that:
  • We do not sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 20
  • We do not sell when there is a reason to suspect illegal resale
  • We do not sell alcohol to a person who is intoxicated
  • Our sales staff is obliged to perform age-checks

If you are under 25 years old, please always show your identification before a purchase. To make a purchase for someone who is prohibited to make it them selves, is forbidden and subject to penalty.
