Transportation

Public transportation such as bus, train and airline services are available all over Sweden. Getting around in Halmstad and Sweden is no problem since most Swedish people speak English and are usually very helpful.

Bike


Halmstad is a city that is flat and fairly small. The best way to get around is by bike. There are several shops that sell second hand bikes, and you can expect to pay 500 SEK and more for a second hand bike. Don't forget to lock your bike and always use cycle lamps at night.

Car


Driving to Halmstad is undoubtedly an easy way to get here, if you live in Europe. There are ferries from Helsingør to Helsingborg and from Travemünde, Gothenburg, Trelleborg. There is also the bridge over the sound; Öresundsbron. From there, follow the signs for Gothenburg on the E6. Respect the speed limits in Denmark and Sweden!  Headlights must be switched on always, even during the day!

Train


Trains run frequently to and from Halmstad with services to Gothenburg and Malmö/Copenhagen. The railway station is located close to the town centre and less then 15 minutes walk from the University. Bus


It is also possible to travel to Halmstad via bus from many Swedish cities as well as Oslo and Copenhagen. The network of local buses has a wide and regular coverage in Halmstad, see Hallandstrafikenexternal link for more information. From the bus station, Österskans, there are many routes going to and from the University. From the train station bus number 64 will take you to Österskans, from where you will be able to reach Halmstad University with bus number 20 and 30.

Airplane


There are several airports that are easily accessible from Halmstad. You can fly to Kastrup Airport in Copenhagen and take the train to Halmstad from there. You can also fly to Halmstad, via Arlanda Airport in Stockholm. Halmstad Airfield is situated 3 km outside the city centre. Landvetter Airport in Gothenburg is also fairly close, from there you can take a bus and then train to Halmstad.
