Contexts and Cultural Boundaries
The collaborative research environment Contexts and Cultural Boundaries brings together researchers, lecturers, and PhD students affiliated to the School of Humanities, Halmstad University, with a common interest in the issues of culture, identity, narrativity and territory. The environment offers a forum for
- multi-disciplinary discussions
- project collaboration
- strengthening and development of undergraduate courses
- strengthening and development of research networks
The common denominator of the environment is the study of culturally embedded markers of identity. ‘Identity´ can be understood in this context as the identity of both individuals and institutions; markers can be categorised in terms of ethnicity, class, gender, and the embedding culture can be defined as a physical territory or as a virtual field. Four main sub-themes can be identified:
- Identity and Territoriality (History)
- Identity, Narrativity, Life History (Contemporary Literature, English Literature, Film Studies, German Literature, History)
- Identity and Cultural Encounters (Art Studies, Ethnology, History, Religious Studies)
- Identity and Material Change (Economic History, English Literature, History)
