Course description
The course aims for the student to acquire insight and skills in the theory of differential equations in the perspective of their geometrical properties.Upon completion of the course the student shall be able to:
- describe the geometrical background of the concept of a differential equation
- describe the background of different methods
- use earlier obtained knowledge more efficiently also in non-standard situations - in particular for non-linear partial differential equations
- use the very powerful and elegant method of the Lie groups analysis to solve and to interpret differential equations
- explain deep connections between different fields of mathematics like group theory, algebra, differential geometry and topology
Language of instruction
Teaching is in English.Prerequisites and conditions of admission
Mathematics 60 credits, involving analysis, mathematical statistics and differential equations of at least 7.5 credits each.
