School of Information Technology's research environment is called Halmstad Embedded and Intelligent Systems Research (EIS).
The research activities can be described as a chain of values from enabling technology (Smart Electronic Systems), via system solutions (Systems of Cyber Physical Systems and Awareness), to value-creating products and services (Digital Service Innovation). The activities’ goal is, among others, to contribute to the solution of societal challenges within the University’s profiles Smart Cities and Health Innovation.
For this purpose, School of Information Technology has three research centres within EIS: CAISR (Center for Applied Intelligent Systems Research), CERES (Centre for Research on Embedded Systems) och SCACA (The Swedish Centre for Applied Cultural Analysis).
Through our joint competences we can be an attractive partner and deal with projects where the whole range is treated, from enabling technologies, like low-power technologies and semiconductor sensors, to value-adding IT use, considering user aspects. In between, system and application aspects are treated, e.g. intelligent algorithms, application-specific computer architectures and efficient interconnection technologies. Rather than covering everything, we are focusing on cooperating embedded systems for intelligent applications.
Our strategy is to focus on a limited number of application areas in which we get recognised by industry and society as a key player and natural cooperation partner. Currently, the selected application areas are: health technology, traffic and transport systems, process industry, high-performance signal processing applications, experience industry, together with the (non-application) area of ground breaking electronics.

The competence in these technology areas include signals and systems, informatics, mathematics, computer science and engineering, forensics, electronics and physics. These competences form the EIS research environment.
