The focus of the research is on Cooperating Embedded Systems, in particular on the new opportunities offered by intelligent and massive cooperation between and within embedded systems. For the benefit of industry, the research aims at exploiting the opportunities for cooperation that new, enabling technologies provide.

CERES is a centre for industrially motivated but mainly long-term research, thus with a mission to increase the competitiveness of Swedish industry. To industry, CERES is a research partner and a recruitment base, primarily at the PhD and Master levels. The industrial partners include leading multinational companies as well as research-based growing companies.

CERES has now reached the phase when effects in industry and society can be seen, as well as the phase of international recognition, i.e. when the centre is attractive in national and international excellence networks and joint projects. CERES is part of ELLIIT, the national Swedish strategic research initiative within ICT. CERES is partner in European research consortia within embedded systems research and has strategic connections to excellence centres worldwide.
