Interlibrary loans

An interlibrary loan is a loan between two different libraries. Photocopied material sent over from another library is also considered to be an interlibrary loan. An interlibrary loan service is available at Halmstad University Library and thus, if the material you are looking for is not accessible through our library, or through the municipal library in Halmstad, you can always get help to order it from another library.

Who can order an interlibrary loan?

This service is limited to students, researchers and staff at Halmstad University as well as external students. You have to be a registered in our library system.
The public is directed the closest municipal library for help with ordering interlibrary loans.

What material can be ordered?

Books that we have in our collections which are already borrowed can not be ordered by interlibrary loan, neither can material that the public library of Halmstad has in it´s collections.

Remember that there is a lot of material that libraries do not normally offer to other libraries in the form of interlibrary loans. Among this you will often find course books, reference literature, journals, theses and older material.

The University Library will help you order most items you cannot find in our collection as interlibrary loans, but we will however reserve the right to try every request first. Each request for an interlibrary loan is always considered as a possible acquisition to the library collection before an interlibrary order is sent off.

It normally takes between 5 - 7 days for an interlibrary loan to arrive, although it may vary. The loan period and other terms are decided by the lending library.
