Technology-based entrepreneurship


Åsa Lindholm Dahlstrand's professorship in Business Administration with specialisation in Entrepreneurship has been financed from a donation from the Sparbanksstiftelsen Kronan foundation. From the beginning Åsa Lindholm Dahlstrand has an engineering background but began early on to be interested in the area of Business and Economics. In particular it is the role of small and newly-established technology companies in economic development which interests her. Financial systems where technological companies of various sizes interact via company spin-offs and acquisitions subsequently became the subject of her PhD thesis.

Halmstad University has for a long time been well-established within the area of Entrepreneurship and Business Enterprise research, especially in the area relating to the connection between financings, corporate governance, internationalisation and growth. Åsa Lindholm Dahlstrand's research is linked to this tradition while at the same time she has retained a strong interest in strengthening the ties between business administration and engineering. Her research is very much about technology-based entrepreneurship and new technology companies as well as how their development will be affected by external actors and processes. This includes research relating for example to innovation systems, regional development and growth aspects. Studies relating to the development of university- and private company spinoffs and in technology company acquisitions are central to her research as well as also how areas such as science parks, business incubators and venture capital can contribute to innovation and growth.

Åsa Lindholm Dahlstrand was born in 1964 and grew up in Gothenburg. She received a Master's of Science degree in Engineering from Chalmer's Institute of Technology where she also defended her thesis in 1994. She has been Professor of Business Administration specializing in entrepreneurship at Halmstad University since 2005.
