Professor of Energy Technology with specialism in Renewable Energy, at the School of Business, Engineering and Science. Appointed in 2008.
"My research interest lies mainly in two areas: the first is electrical energy production, above all from renewable energy sources and small-scale electricity production. The other area is the construction and maintenance of electrical machines. I believe that there can be a greater area of use for energy production in individual buildings. Electrical heating involves the production of electricity at the same time as hearting of a building etc".
Renewable energy sources and efficient use of energy are more and more in demand, both from an environmental and economic standpoint. Jonny Hylander's research concerns how the technology can be developed to exploit the energy sources in the best possible way with the production of electrical energy.
Jonny Hylander was born in 1955 in Mölndal and grew up in Gävle. He studied for a Master of Science in Engineering (specialism in Electrical Engineering) at the Chalmers Institute of Technology and defended his thesis on the production of electricity from wind power in 1986. Following his PhD he worked as senior lecturer, also at Chalmers and was appointed as Associate Professor in 1990. During the period 1996–2005 he was active at the University College of Borås, of which three years were spent as head of department. Jonny Hylander subsequently worked as a consultant and also as a teacher at upper secondary school level for two academic years. In 2008 he was appointed as Professor at Halmstad University.
