Seminars

In research studies, the doctoral student is supposed to presenting a thesis work on at least two mandatory internal seminars. These seminars are partly a so-called "research proposal" (RP) at the beginning of postgraduate education and also a final seminar where a draft dissertation manuscript should be presented.

In cases where the doctoral student chooses to take both a licentiate and a doctorate requires a final review for each dissertation.

It is also possible to have a non-compulsory between the seminar. This is recommended primarily graduate students who choose not to submit a licentiate thesis.

For research proposal (RP) seminar the script should be available at least one week in advance. For other seminars the script should be available at least two weeks in advance.

RP (Research Proposal) Seminar

The RP seminar will take place early in the education and preferably during the first year of training.

This documentation should include a project description for the thesis, which includes:

  • problem description
  • view specification
  • theoretical and methodological starting points
  • expected result
  • timetable

The RP will be reviewed by at least two opponents, in which at least one must have a doctorate.

The seminar's main purpose is to determine whether the topic is relevant, researchable and adequately described. The decision are made by opponents in consultation with the supervisor to approve seminar report. If the surface is assessed as not yet approved a new seminar can be held.

Middle Seminar

It is possible to hold a seminar during the education, when the student has progressed so far that dissertation structure and essential elements of its content is ready. The seminar is voluntary and therefore there is no formal assessment of the script.

Indicative of the seminar is to give doctoral students clear recommendations on what remains to be done to the script and witch should be presented in a final seminar.

Final Seminar

For doctoral dissertation

The script should consist of a complete and coherent proposal on the dissertation manuscript and at least one examiner shall have reviewed the document. The opponent must be at least an associate professor and come from a different university.

For licentiate thesis
The final seminar for the licentiate thesis takes place at the end of the doctoral student's work with the licentiate thesis.

The script should consist of a complete and coherent proposal on the script for the licentiate thesis.

There will be at least one examiner that will review the documents. The opponent must be at least an associate professor and come from a different university.

Decision on approval of the licentiate thesis is taken by the examiner. If the proposal is considered to have critical flaws there will be a new final seminar held.
