Welcome to Media and Communication Studies

Media and Communication Studies at Halmstad university offers a wide range of courses and a three year bachelor degree program. All undergraduate courses are given in Swedish except for our postgraduate course (see further link to the right). Our courses touch upon issues related to, for example, public relations, media production, documentary film, media analysis, media literacy, audience studies. Whether you choose to study single courses or decide to attend our bachelor degree program much flexibility is given to you as a student and the possibility to create your own educational portfolio. In our program theoretical ways of thinking and practical training goes hand in hand. Thus, our courses are featured by both practical and theoretical elements. Trough, for instance, cooperation with companies, associations and authorities students conduct reality based projects in various forms.

Our courses offered to students are all linked to ongoing research at our department but of course also to national and international research. Research in media and communication at Halmstad university has its main focus on the following issues:

•         journalistic and documentary representations
•         globalisation, digital media and young people
•         public relations
•         sustainability and media

Postgraduate course in Media and communication studies

The aim of the course is to provide the student with a more advanced understanding in subject areas central to media and communication studies. The objective is to develop the student´s ability to critically examine and analyse topics within the field of media and communication. The whole course is featured by flexibility, taken into account student´s need and interests and its main focus is on writing a thesis. Thus, a wide range of options addressing relevant issues within the field of media and communication can be chosen and the course can therefore be individually designed and adjusted in cooperation with a personal supervisor throughout the semester.
