Robot Design Competition
Most of the modern engineering products make use of some kind of "intelligence". This intelligence is essentially what makes a product a mechatronical product. Today's engineers need at least a basic knowledge of mechatronical design techniques and elements such as sensors, actuators, mechanics, electronics, real-time software and computer hardware. However, to be able to really understand the interaction between the different elements, building a complete mechatronical system is a necessity. Therefore, we introduced a project oriented course in our master's degree program for Computer Systems Engineering where the students can design and build a typical mechatronical product in the form of a mobile robot.
Course Organizers: Albert-Jan Baerveldt and Björn Åstrand at CCA.
The basic idea is that each group of two students gets a mobile robot kit to build and program a mobile robot with software to perform a predefined task. The task will be the same for all groups. At the end of the course the developed robots will compete with each other by performing the assigned task. The Robot Design Competition is part of the course "Mechatronical Systems".

Visitors since April -98.
