Halmstad University has a special responsibility to actively ensure that persons with disabilities are able to visit, study and work at the University to the same extent as a person without such disabilities.
In accordance with Halmstad University's policy for equality and diversity, the University should strive towards the goal that persons with disabilities should be able to take part in the activities of the University in the same way as a person without such disabilities. The University should strive for the creation of an accessible working environment in the physical, social and psychological sense, together with providing pedagogical support for students with functional disabilities.
At Halmstad University, the responsibility for students with disabilities lies within the Student Affairs Department where a student counsellor is responsible for the coordination of specific pedagogical support through their roll as contact person for students with disabilities.
For current students with disabilities, i.e. those registered on courses or programmes at Halmstad University, there are resources available offering specific support. By functional disability it is meant permanent or chronic physical / psychological impairment which in a study environment can lead to a handicap. Students should have documented their disability through a medical certificate in order to obtain extra resources.
Depending on the nature of the disability and its extent, the contact person makes an assessment of the compensatory measures which the University can offer and finance. The measures are offered on an individual basis and vary in accordance with various needs. The planning should take place in close cooperation with the University's teaching staff in terms of:
