Computer Systems Engineering I

7,5 credits

The course provides the student with the opportunity to acquire fundamental knowledge of the principles which can be applied in developing embedded computer systems.

The course offers students subject-specific knowledge in developmental work within hardware construction at system level as well as knowledge of the programming of such systems. Following completion of the course, the student should be able to demonstrate the ability to evaluate and analyze various technical solutions, planning and independently carrying out technical developmental work in the area. Present, orally and in writing, various solutions in dialogue form and finally understand the circumstances under which the methods and principles presented in the course are applicable.

Following completion of the course, the student will have acquired knowledge relating to how embedded computer systems operate with a focus on the interplay between a micro-processer and its environment. After successful completion of the course, students will be in a position on their own initiative to develop hard and software for smaller scale embedded systems. The student will additionally be acquainted with the complexity of problems encountered with the development of computer systems where software and hardware cannot be developed on an individual basis. Finally the student should be familiar with the working methodology for the development and documentation of these systems.
