Concrete Technology and Concrete Construction

7,5 credits

The aim of the course is to give knowledge and proficiency in concrete construction as regards material technology and production technology. The emphasis is on knowledge and proficiency a supervisor at a building site must posses in order to be able to lead and manage concrete construction work with a good result.

After completion of the course the student is expected to be able to

  • Describe the main constituents of normal concrete: cement, water, aggregates, admixtures and additives
  • Describe different forming systems and be able to design traditional concrete forms.
  • Execute a basic concrete mix-design; manually and with a computer program.
  • Describe different reinforcement systems and identify and handle crucial parts of reinforcement work on site.
  • Identify, describe and handle crucial parts of concrete construction works on site.
  • Explain and analyse the drying-up process for concrete and have knowledge about different moisture measurement methods.
  • Identify, describe and handle crucial parts as regards winter concreting on site

    The course will comprise lectures, exercises, a project work and a study-visit
    The course is concluded by a written examination.
