Equality and Integration, Culture and Society in Sweden

7,5 credits

The course highlights equality and integration concerning a Swedish and Nordic context. Theories of social stratification are linked to an intersectional perspective. Democratic values and integration are discussed in relation to concepts such as ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, social class status and age. Current phenomena are problematized by making power structures visible with the aid of theoretical perspectives. Emphasis is particularly placed on the analysis of the conditions for individuals and groups with regard to equality, gender equality as well as equality in Swedish social and cultural contexts. Perspectives concerning equality and integration are analyzed through case studies that cover the education sector, youth cultures, and age stratifications.
