Cristofer Englund new Dean at Halmstad University

Cristofer Englund has been appointed new Dean at the School of Information Technology (ITE). His most recent position was as Research Director at the research institute RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden). Still, Halmstad University is well known to him.

Cristofer Englund has been appointed new Dean at the School of Information Technology (ITE).

On February 13, Cristofer Englund starts his new position as Dean at the School of Information Technology – one of four schools at Halmstad University. It is not the first time he sets foot on the University premises. He is a former student, doctoral student and supervisor for doctoral students at the University. Since 2020, he is an Adjunct Professor at the University and when he commences his new role as Dean, he will become Professor of Information Technology.

Stephen Hwang, Vice-Chancellor at Halmstad University, says that Cristofer Englund stands out with his solid academic background and experience in business collaboration:

An opportunity to impact the future

Cristofer Englund has worked with industry research for several years and he also has a background as Research Director both from private and state-owned research institutes. Cristofer Englund sees taking on the role of Dean as a next step in his career and as an opportunity to impact the future:

“I have worked in research for many years, and over time I have focused on being an enabler of research by coaching and guiding my colleagues. Taking on the role as Dean will give me further opportunities to influence the future – not only for the employees, but also for the students”.

Development plans

The School of Information Technology is a strong research and education environment focusing on smart technology. Programmes, courses and research in several fields, such as artificial intelligence, smart electronics systems and digital design, attract not only Swedish, but also international students and researchers every year. Cristofer Englund has great confidence in the future of ITE.

“I am convinced that my commitment and background will help the University and the school to develop further – with more interesting courses and programmes, as an even more attractive workplace and as an innovative partner in research projects. In addition, I want to contribute to the development of the University as part of a sustainable society and a sustainable future”, Cristofer Englund concludes.

Cristofer Englund succeeds Stefan Byttner, who has temporarily been acting Dean. Stefan Byttner will now return to his role as Head of Department for Intelligent Systems and Digital Design at ITE.
