Hans Landström appointed honorary doctor

Professor Emeritus Hans Landström has been appointed Honorary Doctor in Innovation Sciences at Halmstad University. During the 1990s, Hans Landström was employed at the University and played a decisive role in establishing the fields of business administration and entrepreneurship at the University. In 1999, he was appointed as one of Halmstad University’s first five professors.

Hans Landström is Professor Emeritus at the Lund School of Economics and Management and has recently been appointed Honorary Doctor of Innovation Sciences at Halmstad University.

Last week, the Research and Education Board appointed Professor Emeritus Hans Landström as an Honorary Doctor in Innovation Sciences.

“We are very pleased to appoint Hans Landström as an honorary doctor at Halmstad University. Through his distinguished scholarly contributions, he has had a fundamental impact on the development of the University’s former research environment, which formed the basis when the University in 2010 was granted the right to provide doctoral education and award doctoral degrees in Innovation Sciences. Through long-term commitment and close collaboration with researchers at Halmstad University, Hans Landström has continued to strengthen and develop the University’s research within the field,” says Eva-Carin Lindgren, Chair of the Research and Education Board.

Professor Emeritus Hans Landström is an internationally recognised researcher in entrepreneurship. His scholarly work has had a particular impact on the understanding of the development and history of knowledge within entrepreneurship, as well as on the financial conditions of new and small enterprises. During the 1990s, Hans Landström was active at Halmstad University and served as a central source of inspiration for the University’s emerging research in entrepreneurship and small businesses. During the early stages of this work, he emphasised the interaction between entrepreneurship and innovation and contributed to integrating these perspectives into both research and education. Hans Landström’s contributions were of great importance to the emergence of the research environment that later formed the basis for a successful application for doctoral education in innovation sciences. Following the establishment of the doctoral programme, Hans Landström has continued actively to contribute to the University’s research through collaborations with researchers, including participation in doctoral courses and joint publications. Hans Landström’s long-term commitment has been of great importance in strengthening Halmstad University’s international visibility and legitimacy, as well as in inspiring and reinforcing the scientific foundation and maturity of the doctoral education environment.

One of the University’s first professors

Hans Landström was employed at Halmstad University in 1987 and, at the end of the 1990s, he became one of the University’s first five professors. Since 2001, Hans Landström has been active at the School of Economics and Management in Lund and has continuously maintained close contact and collaboration with colleagues in Halmstad. Being appointed honorary doctor in innovation sciences at Halmstad University is a great honour, Hans Landström states:

“It is always rewarding to be recognised for one’s work, and this is a particularly honourable distinction for me. Since the late 1980s, for almost 40 years, I have had some form of connection with Halmstad University, and I have always valued the collaboration. It therefore feels especially rewarding that Halmstad University has also regarded the collaboration as valuable,” says Hans Landström.

Hans Landström will become the University’s tenth honorary doctor. He will be conferred at the University’s academic ceremony on 6 November.

Honoured for extraordinary efforts

An honorary doctorate is a way for the University to show its appreciation of extraordinary efforts. The University can appoint Honorary Doctors within the areas that is has the right to award doctorates: Information Technology, Innovation Sciences, and Health and Lifestyle. It is the University’s Research and Education Board that appoints Honorary Doctors.

Halmstad University has appointed ten Honorary Doctors:
