Forskning

My primary research area is Advanced Digital Manufacturing, which encompasses the areas of 3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, Hybrid Manufacturing, and Embedded Systems. The total funding I've obtained to pursue this research, to date, is over 35 MSEK as a primary or co-applicant; (excluding an award, in which I participated as a joint author, for 360 MSEK for the MicroMAX beamline at MAX IV Laboratory).

The research ranges from investigating and understanding the fundamentals of these processes and techniques, to the development of new materials and applications, to the transfer of this new knowledge from research to industry.

Past and current research topics of mine have been highly multi- and interdisciplinary, typically involving international co-investigating researchers.

Some examples of my research work are:

Production techniques for In-situ Resource Utilization (ISRU). Researching the fundamentals of Laser-Based Powder Bed Fusion (LB-PBF) additive manufacturing for creating freeform structures using indigenous extraterrestrial regolith materials (i.e. moon dust and Martian soil).

3D Printing Radar lenses. Utilizing low-cost material extrusion 3D printing to create 60 GHz consumer radar lenses with antireflective structures.

Advanced Microfluidic Devices. New techniques for creating microfluidic devices with embedded sensors for application to chemical and biological analysis and synthesis.

Smart Metal Matrix Composites. Using low bulk temperature-high plastic flow phenomena in ultrasonic metal welding to design and manufacture metal matrix composites with embedded sensors, electronics and functional elements.

Distributed manufacturing. Combining additive and subtractive digitally-driven processes into a portable hybrid manufacturing station. Industry 4.0 in a box.

My research compliments Halmstad University’s strategic research areas of Smart Cities and Communities and Health Innovation.
