There are several different types of examinations at the University, but the most common ones are written examinations in an examination hall and take-home examinations. Take a look at our tips on examination stress, how to prepare yourself, and things to think about when doing a take-home exam.
Study properly for written examinations
When it comes to studying for a written examination in an examination hall, we recommend that you start with a strategy for your studies at the beginning of the course. This will mean that you have a reasonable workload throughout the course and will be well prepared when the time for the examination comes. Nervous about your exam? Do a test exam!
If you want to try out what happens during a written examination, you can come to one of our test examination sessions. This provides you with the opportunity to experience how it works with a real written examination. You will become familiar with what it is like to be checked off on the attendance register, see what an examination hall looks like, and hear what instructions you’ll get. You will also have the opportunity to talk to someone who works as an invigilator – if you want. The next test exam examination session can be found in the student calendar.
Counteract “exam stress”
If you are easily stressed out before an exam, it can be a good idea to have thought about and practised a relaxation exercise that you can use when taking the exam. If you want some help with this, you can contact the Student Healthcare Centre. In its waiting room, you will also have the opportunity to practice mindfulness exercises on your own.

Remember to always register for your written examination in Student Ladok. If you are not registered in time, it won’t matter how much you have studied because you won’t be permitted to take the examination without being registered.
Things to think about for take-home exams
In order to be able to pass a take-home exam, you need to have studied the subject in-depth before you even receive the exam.
- Establish good learning techniques and study methods for yourself for the entire course early on. That will make it easier to do the take-home exam at the end of the course.
- During the time allotted for the exam you will usually have the option to check the course reading materials, but if you don’t have basic knowledge it will be really difficult and will take a lot of time.
- Pay special attention to the rules about plagiarism and working with others on exam questions. There may be different rules for different examinations and it’s important that you follow the rules so that you don’t risk being accused of cheating.
