Are everyday journeys a class issue?

Getting to work, school or the shops is a matter of course for many people – but not for everyone. In this lecture, I will talk about my research on transport poverty and how a lack of good travel options can exclude people from participating in society. I will share experiences from Biskopsgården in Gothenburg, where residents use their own solutions, such as sharing monthly travel cards or everyday items, and discuss why these local initiatives are rarely seen in planning. The lecture is aimed at anyone who is curious about how we can think more broadly about the design of sustainable mobility and what the alternatives of the future might look like.

Oliver Weberg, PhD student in Information Technology at Halmstad University, believes that there are alternatives to the efficiency- and profit-driven agenda that dominates today. This lecture is about a community-driven example that centres equality, inclusion and access to promote a genuinely transformative and just future.
