CAISR Health at Vitalis: Turning Triple Helix Collaboration into Practice
Vitalis in Gothenburg is a yearly conference where healthcare providers, the medtech industry, and decision-makers meet. For CAISR Health, this makes it a particularly valuable setting as it is different from a traditional scientific conference and closer to the realities of healthcare transformation.
“Vitalis is where the triple helix truly comes alive. It is a space where collaboration between academia, healthcare, and industry moves from principle to practice”, says Farzaneh Etminani, Associate Professor in Machine Learning at Halmstad University and the profile leader of CAISR Health.
This year, CAISR Health contributed actively across the program, with several sessions developed and delivered together with industry partners and Region Halland. The contributions reflected the profile’s core focus: how artificial intelligence and digital technologies can be implemented in healthcare in ways that are sustainable, meaningful, and grounded in everyday practice.

Amira Soliman, Senior Lecturer in Machine Learning, delivered the presentation Driving Healthcare Data Interoperability Through Multidisciplinary Knowledge Co-Creation together with Niklas Sundler from Avenga, a corporate partner of CAISR Health.
Rather than focusing solely on technological possibilities, the sessions addressed critical questions around implementation. Topics included how AI is reshaping professional roles, leadership challenges in AI-assisted organisations, and the balance between data-driven decision-making and human-centred care. Another key theme was how to ensure that new technologies, such as AI-driven tools and large language models—create value in clinical workflows, rather than adding complexity or risk.

Ellen Jaldestad, Senior Lecturer in Health Education, delivered the presentation ID Woundcare – Changing Roles and Work Environment in Wound Care Following the Implementation of New Digital Tools together with Ebba Lindgren from Mölnlycke Health Care, a corporate partner of CAISR Health.
Across these discussions, CAISR Health highlighted the importance of co-creation: researchers, clinicians, and industry partners working together to address real-world challenges.
The engagement from participants led to thoughtful discussions Farzaneh Etminani explains:
“For us, this confirms that triple helix collaboration is not just a model we talk about—it is how we work every day. Vitalis is one of the most natural places to demonstrate that.”

Amira Soliman, Senior Lecturer in Machine Learning, and Katrin Häggström Westberg, Senior Lecturer in Nursing, delivered the lecture Between Insight and Infrastructure: How Young Adults and Healthcare System Data Map Healthcare Trajectories of Anxiety and Depression at Vitalis.
