CAISR Health initiative on health data interoperability

Researchers within CAISR Health and representatives from the research profile’s partner organisations have completed a training programme in openEHR. The new knowledge and skills will support the development of the I-Fly project and contribute to the work towards more interoperable health data within Sweden and across Europe.

The programme focused on how openEHR standards can be used to store, manage and exchange electronic health records with a strong focus on interoperability and sustainable health data infrastructure.

Through a combination of theory and hands-on exercises, participants gained knowledge and skills in both the technical aspects of openEHR and broader issues such as governance, compliance, and interoperability. The course also highlighted the strategic value of openEHR standards in enabling health data to be structured within a shared semantic framework, remain independent of specific systems, and be reused for different purposes over time.

"The technical track focused on data modelling, querying, APIs, and application development, while the management track explored governance, compliance, interoperability, and the strategic value of data according to OpenEHR standards."

This expertise will be valuable in the next phase of I-Fly, which aims to contribute to a standards-based health data infrastructure aligned with the emerging European Health Data Space (EHDS).
