Start your studies as international student at course or programme
On this page you can find instructions and other important information that applies to international students starting a course or programme at Halmstad University.
Registration needed
In order to confirm your place and start your studies, both online and on campus, at Halmstad University, you need to apply for an activation code, create a student account and register for your courses. Please follow below instructions to successfully register as a student at Halmstad University.
If you are starting a programme or course which is only available on campus, please wait with your registration until you are sure that you will be able to come to campus.
If you cannot register on time or arrive in time for the start of the semester, please contact the Student Affairs Department to discuss your situation. The programmes and courses have different deadlines for registration. Your late arrival or late registration has to be granted by the University. If you do not contact us regarding late arrival, your admission may be cancelled.
If you are a tuition fee-paying student and cannot start your studies at all, you can apply for deferment of studies after making your first payment.

August 15–August 23: Create a student account and register as a student
You need to create a student account to be able to register for your upcoming studies and access the University's digital tools.
1. Apply for activation code
Do you have a Swedish personal identity number? Please go directly to step 2.
If you do not have a Swedish personal number you will have to apply for an activation code via the application form below. This is the first step of the registration process. After submitting the form, the Student Affairs Department will process the information and you will later receive an activation code by email. This might take a few days.
2. Create student account and register for your programme/course
You need to create a student account to be able to register for your upcoming studies and access the University's digital tools.

Go to the student account registration page and choose the option applicable to you. Follow the instructions on the page.

After finishing the instructions you will be redirected to a page showing your student account login details, which you will use for all digital tools at Halmstad University.
Register for your course in Student Ladok
When you have obtained your student account, you can register for your first course in Student Ladok to get access to the course material for the specific course. Login by entering your student account details.

It is important that your contact details are correct so that you don't miss out on important information from the University and from your teachers. You can edit your contact details on "My pages" in Student Ladok.

After registration: Prepare for the study start
Course material and schedule
When you have registered for your education, you will get access to your schedule, course material and information about course literature in the learning platform called Blackboard. The information will be available one week before the course starts and your teacher has added the information.
Please note that it might take a few hours after your registration is finalised until you can log in to Blackboard, the digital tool that you will use during your education.
Schedule for online studies
If you are studying an online course, you will find your schedule in the learning platform Blackboard after your have registered on your course and your teacher has added the information.

If you are studying on campus, you can find your schedule on "My page" here at the student web.

Course/programme syllabus
Every programme has a course syllabus describing what you are expected to learn during the programme. In this document, you can read about the setup of the programme, what courses are included and when they are planned to take place.
Similarly, every course has a crouse syllabus, describing the various parts of the course and what you need to laern in order to get your credits. At the end of the course literature document you can find the course literature list, stating which articles and books you are expected to use during the course.
You can access "My page" via the link below or via the menu in the upper right corner (for example on this page). Login with your student account login details.

August 23: Mandatory introduction meeting
On August 23, you are expected to participate in a digital introduction lecture called New @ Halmstad University via Zoom.
A link to the webinar will be visible in your schedule one day prior to the event.
Programme assembly
More detailed information about your education is shared with you by your programme director, during a programme assembly. You can find more information about your specific programme assembly in your schedule.

August 29: Start of the semester
The official start of the semester is August 29. The schedule will show when you have your first lecture in your course. An introduction is made during your first lecture.

Access card / Library card
In order to get access to the campus facilitites, you need an access card. This card can also be used as a library card at the University Library.
