Fun start for new students at the Welcoming Games

Last week, the spring semester started and with it, the Student Union's welcoming of new students. A fair, dodgeball and jousting were on the new students' schedule during the Welcoming Games.

The Welcoming Games are the spring semester's equivalent to the big introduction, or nollning, that takes place in the autumn. Over the course of three days, the students get to know the city, and each other. On the very first day, armor was made of cardboard in the University Hall for the tournament in the afternoon. Collaboration, creativity and duct tape were in focus when the students got a fun start to their studies at the University.

One of the participants at the Welcoming Games was Kalle Glans. He has just started his studies at the Introduction Semester, a semester of studies in preparation for future engineering studies.

“The Welcoming Games been been great and a lot of fun so far. The most fun has been to build the armour and to be chosen to be in it, as a knight. There is also a gasque and pub opening and many other fun things. My plan is to join all of it,” said Kalle Glans.

Around 70 exchange students also completed their first days at the University last week. For them, the introduction in the spring is extra important.

“The Welcoming Games are a way for the Student Union to gather all the new students and welcome them to the University. It is important to us that those who start in the spring are welcomed and have this experience, just like those who start in the autumn and attend the big introduction. For example, the exchange students are no longer there after the summer, so they do not have the opportunity to participate in the autumn introduction, like the other students do”, said Fannie Andersson, Vice President of Halmstad Student Union.

Dodgeball was one of the activities during the Welcoming Games. It really brought out the new students' competitiveness.
