Evaluation of doctoral education
Halmstad University regularly evaluates its doctoral education to ensure high quality and drive continuous development. The evaluations are based on laws, regulations, and the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ESG), as well as the University's own governing documents and quality policy. The evaluations are conducted in a six-year cycle and are the responsibility of the Research and Education Board (FUN).
Purpose of the evaluation
- Ensure that the content, structure, and outcomes of the doctoral education meet high national and international standards.
- Provide an overview of the doctoral education relevance and currency.
- Offer feedback that supports the development and improvement of the doctoral education.
- Verify that the doctoral education comply with the University’s governing documents.
- Highlight the doctoral education´s specific profiles and strengths.
How the evaluation is carried out
- Each doctoral education subject is evaluated approximately every six years.
- The doctoral education are reviewed by external experts.
- The evaluation is based on a self-evaluation and existing material, such as data from the annual follow-up.
- A site visit is conducted where the external experts interview representatives of the evaluated doctoral education, doctoral students, alumni, and representatives from working life.
- The results are compiled in a report by the external experts. Before the report is finalised, it is shared with the relevant subject collegium and discussed in a dialogue with a temporary preparation group appointed by FUN.
- FUN decides whether to approve the report written by the external experts.
- The School and the subject collegium prepare a development plan based on the external experts’ report and report back to FUN on the progress of the development work.
