Global Culture and Communication

The course deals with perspectives on global culture and intercultural communication in relation to sustainability. The course places special emphasis on the role of communication forms in conveying information about global issues of sustainability, gender equality and fake news in digital and multimodal contexts, including online texts, blogs, and podcasts. In relation, the course highlights how multimodality and storytelling techniques can affect the creation and conveyance of messages. In addition, the course deals with the role of English as a global lingua franca in both digital and analogue contexts. During the course, students will have the opportunity to develop their ability to express themselves in spoken and written English, both independently and in groups, through classroom discussions and exercises, written assignments, and group presentations.
