nZEBRA: Final stakeholder meeting and Master’s course

In March 2026, the nZEBRA project group organised the final nZEBRA stakeholder meeting, where they, among other things, talked about the upcoming Master’s course, after which the nZEBRA project reaches its conclusion. Together, the two events create an inspiring and collaborative meeting place for students, researchers, industry professionals and public authorities to exchange ideas and explore how nearly zero-energy buildings can be developed and implemented in practice.

The nZEBRA project is now approaching its conclusion. The project has focused on developing an intensive blended learning course on climate-neutral buildings, designed to meet new requirements and address the complex challenges of nearly zero-energy building. The final nZEBRA stakeholder meeting and Master’s course reflect the project’s core ambition: to bridge education, research and practice, and to support the transition towards a more sustainable built environment.

This was the second and final stakeholder meeting, which will be held in Halmstad. The meeting focused on how sustainable and nearly zero-energy buildings can be developed and implemented in practice, bringing together experts from industry, academia and local authorities.

Confirmed speakers included:

  • Heidi Norrström, Architect SAR/MSA, PhD, Senior Lecturer, representing Halmstad University, will provide insights into Swedish energy regulations for buildings
  • Mohammadreza Aghaei, Senior Professor in Renewable and Sustainable Energy at the Freiburg University
  • Christian Johansson, sustainability and indoor climate expert at EVIA, a company specialising in hempcrete and other sustainable materials
  • Christer Kilersjö, CEO of Eksta AB, who brings decades of experience in developing economically viable nearly zero-energy and plus-energy buildings since the 1980s

The concluding panel discussion was facilitated by Charlotta Winkler, PhD and Senior Lecturer, ensuring an interactive exchange between speakers and participants.

Master’s course: Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings

  • When: 30 March–12 June
  • Where: Online (first 7 weeks) and Halmstad University (final week)

The nZEBRA Master’s course Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings, hosted by Halmstad University, marks a major milestone for the project and will formally conclude its activities. Building on years of collaboration, learning and innovation, this final event brings together students from Sweden and Germany to take part in the final version of the nZEBRA course on nearly zero-energy building.

During the course, participants will engage with the full curriculum – combining theoretical foundations and practical applications, including exercises and hands-on examples tailored to the building and construction sector. The course is designed to equip future professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to develop and implement nearly zero-energy buildings in real-world contexts.

The second and final edition starts online on 30 March for 7 weeks and the final 8th week on-site in Halmstad will take place in mid-June starting 8 June, with professionals and student participation based on specific selection criteria to ensure an optimal learning experience. This event follows the first nZEBRA summer school, which was successfully organised last June in Hamburg by TUHH.
