Follow-up of education
Halmstad University conducts an annual follow-up of its first- and second-cycle programmes to support quality assurance and quality enhancement. The follow-up is an integral part of the University’s quality assurance system and is based on collegial analysis, dialogue and continuity. It provides an overall picture of programme quality over time and serves as an important basis for planning and development both within individual programmes and across the Schools.
Purpose of the follow-up
- To establish systematic follow-up and documentation of the quality assurance work carried out within each programme.
- To ensure that the programmes maintain high quality and that the degree objectives are achieved.
- To identify areas for development and follow up improvement measures that have been implemented.
- To document and report measures identified through evaluations.
- To strengthen collegial responsibility and active quality enhancement within the programmes.
- To support long-term planning and clear priorities.
How the follow-up is conducted
The follow-up is conducted annually and alternates between written and oral reporting. A written follow-up is carried out every other year and documented in the form of a short report in the Hypergene decision support system. The report is prepared by the program director together with the teaching team and is based on a joint analysis of programme quality and development needs. Students, representatives of working life and other stakeholders are given the opportunity to provide input through the programme council before the report is approved by the School advisory board.
In years when no written report is produced, an oral follow-up is conducted instead in the form of a status report. This takes place as a dialogue meeting in which the program director presents the programme’s development and priorities in discussion with the School. Like the written follow-up, the oral follow-up is based on collegial analysis and is documented so that it can be followed up on the next occasion.
Collegial dialogue and development
The follow-up is a collegial process in which the teaching team analyses the programme’s strengths, challenges and development needs. The work draws on both qualitative reflections and relevant documentation, such as data on student progression and completion, student satisfaction as reflected, for example, in course evaluations, the Final-Year Survey or other quality indicators. Collegial dialogue and shared responsibility are central to the process and contribute to the long-term quality of the programme.
The results are reviewed by the School and discussed with University management. The follow-up thus forms a central part of the quality assurance system and supports planning, development and quality assurance at all levels.
