BALANCE: Building active lifestyles and nurturing cultural engagement

BALANCE is a European project that promotes young people’s health by combining everyday lifestyle habits with values such as inclusion, collaboration and engagement. Through inspiring role models, accessible educational resources and a 365-day health challenge, the project provides young people with the tools to bring about lasting changes to both their physical and mental health.

Objectives

BALANCE aims to promote healthier lifestyles among young people aged 13–30 by embedding European values such as inclusion, cooperation, and civic engagement into everyday health practices. The project focuses on three core goals:

  1. Awareness: Raise awareness of healthy habits through relatable role models and ambassadors.
  2. Education: Provide accessible educational materials and methodologies for youth and youth workers.
  3. Experience: Encourage long-term behavior change through a 365-day healthy lifestyle challenge.

Key activities

  • Research & Needs Assessment: Literature reviews, stakeholder interviews, and surveys to identify gaps in youth health education.
  • Educational Resource Development: Creation of multimedia materials (videos, infographics, interactive modules) and a digital platform.
  • Training & Capacity Building: Workshops, ambassador programs, and mentorship initiatives for educators and youth workers.
  • Dissemination & Sustainability: Community events, online engagement, and a long-term strategy to ensure continued use of project outputs.

Innovation and impact

BALANCE is innovative in its integration of digital tools, real-life role models, and inclusive methodologies. It addresses urgent youth health challenges—such as sedentary behavior and mental health—while fostering digital literacy and civic responsibility. The project is designed to be scalable and sustainable, with outputs that can be adapted across Europe.
