Master's Programme (60 credits) in Exercise Biomedicine - Health and Performance
There is an increasing interest in matters concerning physical exercise and its ability to both prevent and treat illness and poor health. With a degree from the Master's programme in Exercise Biomedicine – Health and Performance, you will become an expert on the connection between exercise and health, and with a focus on musculoskeletal diseases, you will focus on the sustainable health of this group of individuals.
About the education
Innovative environments, methods and tools
The education at Halmstad University is characterised by our profiling as a university that drives innovation. You have access to state-of-the-art study environments, including the Human Movement Lab, which is part of the interdisciplinary Rydberg Core Laboratory (RCL).
The Human Movement Lab is a research and teaching facility for the study of the physiology and biomechanics of exercise. The focus is on measurements of exercise capacity and movement mechanics, using advanced equipment to measure endurance, strength, power, flexibility, anthropometrics, muscle activation, vibration, kinematics and kinetics. In connection to The Human Movement facility is a lab for biomedical analyses.
Courses and competencies in focus
The Master's programme in Exercise Biomedicine – Health and Performance is positioned between the fields of sports science and medicine. The focus on exercise as medicine with a biomedical perspective makes the programme unique.
You gain valuable insights into the effects of exercise on physical health and how to apply this knowledge on health promotion and disease therapy, in addition to sports performance. You will develop skills in assessing, analysing and evaluating the human body from an exercise physiological perspective.
The programme is conducted in English.
The degree project during the second semester will be done in close collaboration with researchers at Halmstad University or in collaboration with another university or organization.
Bachelor’s degree (equivalent of 180 Swedish credit points/ECTS points at an accredited university) in Exercise Biomedicine, Biomedicine, Physiotherapy, or Sports Science including 15 ECTS in Anatomy and Physiology, and 7,5 ECTS in Exercise Training.
