Halmstad University confirms shortage of work
Halmstad University has notified the Swedish Public Employment Service that up to eleven employees may be at risk of redundancy at the University. The background to the restructuring is a reduction in higher education funding and the requirement for the University to maintain long-term financial stability.
“Confirming a shortage of work is a difficult decision and is creating concern and uncertainty among staff within the affected areas. We are following a clear restructuring process.”
Marie Andersson, Head of HR
At the Vice-Chancellor’s instruction, the Deans of the University’s four schools have reviewed their operations and decided on measures necessary to achieve a balanced budget for 2026. The Deans of the School of Health and Welfare, the School of Information Technology, and the School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences have decided on organisational changes affecting duties across a total of five areas. This results in a surplus of staff equivalent to up to eleven full-time positions.
Formal notification to the Swedish Public Employment Service
After the employer has explored the possibility of so-called early redeployment, a shortage of work has now been confirmed, and a formal notification has therefore been submitted to the Swedish Public Employment Service.
The next step in the restructuring process is to establish redundancy selection pools for comparable roles within the University.
“Confirming a shortage of work is a difficult decision and it is currently creating concern and uncertainty among staff within the affected areas. We are following a clear restructuring process, in close dialogue with the trade unions. As an employer, we will do what we can to reduce the number of redundancies, for example by offering redeployment where possible”, says the University’s Head of HR, Marie Andersson.
