Thorsteinn Rögnvaldsson is Professor in computer science, specialization in machine learning, and currently also deputy vice chancellor at Halmstad University with responsibility for research.
Thorsteinn initiated and directed Halmstad University's Center for Applied Intelligent Systems Research (CAISR) (see https://www.hh.se/caisr). Thorsteinn's main research direction is machine learning for knowledge creation with applications to predictive maintenance. Some examples of Thorsteinn's ongoing projects are predictive maintenance for heavy duty vehicles (trucks and buses), machine activity recognition of forklift trucks, and generating synthetic data for health care applications. Thorsteinn is also involved in a project with Lund University on deep neural networks for predicting development indicators from satellite images.
