Joakim Tell receives grant for work on Aquality

Joakim Tell, Deputy Professor of Industrial Organisation at Halmstad University, has been awarded SEK 475,000 by the Knut and Ragnvi Jacobsson Family Foundation to support the project Aquality. The project aims to develop floating drones equipped with sensors that can measure and analyse water quality in real time across a range of environments.

Aquality combines hardware and software development to create a prototype system capable of monitoring key water parameters, such as pH levels, nutrients and contaminants. The system enables continuous monitoring, detection and tracking of pollution and automated measurements – this provides municipalities, businesses and researchers with better data to support environmental management and sustainability efforts.

A core element of the project is the integration of Design-Based Education (DBE), through which students at Halmstad University take an active role in the development process. By contributing to the technical solution, students gain hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of how innovation can be used to address environmental and sustainability-related societal challenges.

“I am very grateful for the grant from the Knut and Ragnvi Jacobsson Family Foundation. Their support allows us to further advance Aquality and test the technology in real-world settings, with the aim of creating a practical tool for monitoring water quality and preventing environmental issues”, says Joakim Tell.

The research grant is awarded by the Knut and Ragnvi Jacobsson Family Foundation, which has supported research and education since 2012 with a focus on societal benefit, innovation and quality.
