ADAAI: AI-assisted digital assistants in care organisations – prerequisites for sustainable implementation

The ADAAI project focuses on the implementation and use of AI-assisted digital assistants in care organisations. It aims to generate knowledge on organisational and leadership conditions for sustainable AI implementation, how AI-assisted systems support ongoing implementation processes, and their contribution to work environment improvements and operational effectiveness.

The empirical setting includes the deployment of AI-assisted digital assistant systems within elderly care (Vardaga) and services for young people with special support needs (LSS, Nytida), both within Ambea.

AI is rapidly transforming healthcare and welfare through advanced data processing and decision-support capabilities. In particular, AI-supported administrative tools, such as digital assistants, have the potential to reduce administrative workload, improve efficiency, and enhance job satisfaction among professionals.

However, significant knowledge gaps remain regarding the organisational and professional implications of these technologies. There is limited empirical evidence on how AI affects professional roles, work identities, knowledge practices, leadership, governance, and the psychosocial work environment. Compared to earlier forms of digitalisation, advanced and semi-autonomous AI systems, especially agent-based technologies, introduce new challenges related to decision-making, division of labour, and local implementation.

This project addresses these gaps by examining how AI can be integrated in a sustainable manner, supporting organisational resilience, effective operations, and a high-quality work environment in healthcare and welfare sectors.
