Borrow and order
Halmstad University Library is a public library available to all people where the primary objective for the library is to give service to researchers, staff and students at Halmstad University. If you are a member of the public you can use most of our resources while at the library. However, you cannot order interlibrary loans. This service is limited to students at Halmstad University and other Swedish universities, and staff at Halmstad University.
Library card
In order to loan books, make reservations and order material from the library you need to register in our library system. After you have applied, please come to the reception desk at the library to finalize your registration. Please remember to bring a valid ID card.
Order articles and books
Do you need a book, article, journal or any other material the library doesn't have access to? In most cases we can order the material from another library through an interlibrary loan, or we purchase the material. Fill in one of the choices below and we will get back to you.
Rules for interlibrary loans
This service is for students, researchers and employees at Halmstad University, and also external students. You must have a registered library card from Halmstad University Library. The public is referred to the public libraries in Halmstad municipality.
We do not do interlibrary loans on course literature. Fiction is only eligible for thesis work. The library which owns the book sets terms of use.
Costs for interlibrary loans
Articles for students and researchers: 40 SEK. Please note that you have to pay full price as soon as the order has been processed, regardless if you change your mind and do not collect your article. If you are an employee at Halmstad University, your School pays for the loan.
Articles for other libraries: 80 SEK per article.
Books: Interlibrary loans within the Nordic countries are free. Loans outside the Nordic countries are charged actual costs (150–250 SEK).
Processing time for interlibrary loans
Delivery time is usually around 5–7 working days but can vary. The library which owns the book sets the terms and conditions for that loan.
When the ordered materials have arrived, you will get a notification through email and can collect the book at the library reception desk. If you are a member of staff at Halmstad University, you will get your articles through the internal mail.
For students at another university and the general public
From Monday, November 30, the library opens up to all visitors, but with restrictions. For the general public and students at another university, the library should not be considered a meeting place or workplace. You go in, do your errand and go out again.
This means that printed material is once again accessible by visiting the library, and the possibility to request printed material to be sent to your home is no longer possible.
For distance students
Students registered to one of the distance courses at Halmstad University have full access to the databases the library offers on campus. Distance students living outside of Halmstad municipality can also get books and articles sent to their homes. Distance students living within Halmstad municipality is however required to visit the library themselves and are not qualified to get material sent to their home.

You will get your library card by filling in the library card application below. The library will send a library card to your home. If you already have a library card since before you became a distance student, you still need to fill out the application if you want to get materials sent to your home.

Loans
Distance students living outside of Halmstad municipality and within Sweden can get books sent to their homes. The student is responsible for returning the book to the library and must pay for all costs in doing so. Please note that the student is fully responsible until the books have been returned to the library, so always send books through registered mail.

First check the library catalogue if we have the book in our collection. If we do have the book, but it is out at the moment, please make a reservation instead.

Ordering articles
Begin by searching for the name of the journal in our journal list. If we have access to the journal in digital format you have the possibility of printing it directly. If the journal is only available physically or if we do not have the journal at all, you can place an order for the article and the library will provide you with a printed copy. The cost for ordering articles is 40 SEK/article
