Qualitative and Quantitative Design and Methods in Health and Lifestyle
The course is divided into two modules; Qualitative method 3.5 higher education credits and quantitative method 4 higher education credits.
Qualitative methods, 3.5 higher education credits (Qualitative methods, 3.5 credits)
In this module the focus is to discuss the basic theoretical assumptions of scientific theory for qualitative research design and method. Different empirical and analytical qualitative methods for data collection and analysis are in focus. Particular focus is on design, methodological issues and the implementation of studies in the research area of health and lifestyle. Emphasis is placed on discussing and problematizing challenges, opportunities for qualitative research methods in interdisciplinary studies, consequences of method choices made and ethical considerations in relation to the research area health and lifestyle. Basic computer-aided analysis is also covered.
Quantitative methods, 4 higher education credits (Quantitative methods, 4 credits)
In this module the focus is to discuss basic theoretical assumptions for quantitative research design and method. Various forms of design of quantitative studies, methods for data collection, data analysis and application of statistical methods are treated. Special focus is on design and methodological issues for studies in the research area health and lifestyle. Emphasis is placed on discussing and problematizing challenges, opportunities for quantitative research methods in interdisciplinary studies, consequences of method choices made and ethical considerations in relation to the research area health and lifestyle. An introduction is given to computer-aided analysis in SPSS.
