Data Communication

7,5 credits

The goals of the course are to provide over-arching understanding and knowledge relating to computer communication, to provide knowledge relating to important concepts and frequently-encountered terminology as well as to provide an overview of existing protocols and frequently-encountered algorithms.

Upon completion of the course, the student shall be able to:

  • use and discuss computer communication using frequently-encountered terminology within the field
  • report on the construction and functions of frequently-encountered protocols together with putting this information into the appropriate perspective using ISO’s OSI model @@state the main characteristics of theories relating to capacity limitation which form the basis of computer communication
  • present and explain commonly-encountered network architectures and their areas of usage
  • independently be able to specify and implement simpler well defined functionality in commonly encountered protocols
