Halmstad student nominated for Tech Girl of the Year 2022!

The Tech Girl of the Year award is given to young role models in tech to inspire more women to invest in a technology-related education and career. This year, student Nadia Benamer, who studies IT forensics and information security at Halmstad University, is one of the ten nominees. Microsoft Sweden instituted the award in order to increase women's representation within the tech industry.

The IT and technology industry is growing and is constantly looking for new skills. Despite this, the proportion of women in the tech industry has stagnated. Nadia Benamer goes against the grain and is nominated for the Tech Girl of the Year 2022 award.

“The message I want to spread to others is that as long as you have an interest and are willing to fight for it, no dream is too big.”

“I am passionate about helping and inspiring other people to succeed with their goals. That's why this nomination means a lot to me!”

“I have made a huge journey since I started my education in 2019, and today IT is one of my biggest interests. The message I want to spread to others is that as long as you have an interest and are willing to fight for it, no dream is too big.”

Dreaming of a career within IT

Nadia Benamer wants to work with IT after her education, preferably with criminal investigations at the Swedish Police Authority.

“Being able to work with child-related crimes is something that lies close to my heart. No child should have someone in their life who does not make them feel safe”, says Nadia Benamer.

Broad education with many possibilities

Nadia Benamer first heard about the education in IT forensics and information security at Halmstad University in a conversation with an IT forensic scientist at the Swedish Police Authority. After talking to programme manager Malin Bornhager, she decided to apply for the education.

“I am incredibly happy with the programme. It is designed so that you do not need any previous knowledge. The education is broad and covers several IT-related areas, which creates many choices of work areas to choose from after completing the education. In addition, there are several collaborations with companies in the IT security area and also the police's technical division, which is beneficial for me who wants to work within the Swedish Police Authority”, says Nadia Benamer, one of ten nominees for Tech Girl of the Year 2022.

At the end of March, the three finalists will be presented, which will then be crowned at the Universum Awards on 21 April.
