Molecular Biology and Immunology

7,5 credits

In the course Molecular Biology and Immunology, you develop in-depth knowledge of the structure and function of the genetic material, including epigenetics, and develop knowledge and skills in molecular biology methodology. You will also gain knowledge in the field of immunology, with a special focus on current aspects of immunological research.

The course contains both theoretical lectures that aim to deepen your knowledge in molecular biology and immunology, as well as molecular biological and immunological methodology through compulsory laboratory work. In molecular biology, the organization, function and content of the human genome are discussed, as well as the consequences of epigenetics, instability and changes in the genome at the cellular and organism level. Immunology studies include how the immune system affects various health and disease conditions. Examples of laboratory work that are included are DNA extraction, PCR, ELISA, and the principles of these methods.

Teaching takes place in the form of lectures, seminars and compulsory laboratory work.
