Sustainability and Social Work

The course deals with social work in relation to ecology and environmental problems. The content is divided into three parts. Part 1 concerns social work as academic subject and practice. It discusses how established understandings of social problems and solutions can be understood and renegotiated within an eco-social sustainability perspective. Part 2 concerns issues of welfare and growth. It discusses how established understandings of welfare and growth can be understood and renegotiated within an ecosocial sustainability perspective. Part 3 addresses an emotional and existential dimension. It discusses possible ways of living and practicing in a realm characterized by unpredictability, uncertainty and suffering.
